An annual Juneteenth celebration at the university needed a cohesive visual identity to unify a week of diverse events. Hosted by a collaborative committee and multiple departments, the celebration aimed to honor the significance of Juneteenth while fostering community engagement and education. The challenge was to create a design that resonated with the cultural importance of the event while appealing to a wide audience of students, faculty, and staff. I worked with the event committee to craft a vibrant visual identity that reflected the spirit of freedom, resilience, and celebration.
· A thematic logo and branding elements for the event, incorporating meaningful symbols and colors associated with Juneteenth.
· Digital graphics, including social media templates for event promotions, speaker highlights, and schedule announcements.
· Print materials such as posters, event signage, and programs to ensure cohesive messaging throughout the campus.
· A digital guide summarizing the week’s events and their cultural significance.
The central element of the visual identity was the creation of a distinctive logo. The chosen design featured a stylized representation of the Emancipation Proclamation, with dynamic and flowing lines symbolizing the journey from enslavement to freedom. The Pan-African color palette of red, black, and green added vibrancy and cultural resonance.
The visual identity was applied across various touchpoints, including event posters, social media graphics, merchandise, and digital invitations. Consistent use of the visual elements strengthened brand recognition and created a cohesive and inviting atmosphere for Juneteenth celebrations.
Results:
· Enhanced visibility of the Juneteenth celebration across campus, with increased attendance year over year.
· Received positive feedback from committee members and attendees for the thoughtful and engaging design.
· Strengthened collaboration between departments through consistent and professional branding.
